International Link School

This term, year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed writing fact files about themselves, their school and their local area. These fact files have been sent to children in our international link school; Colegio El Pinar which is in Malaga, Spain. The children are looking forward to receiving a response from the Spanish children. This sharing activity has enabled the children to learn about life in a different country and culture, practice their reading skills in Spanish and promote an enthusiasm for language learning.

Black History Month

As part of our work on Black History Month, Year 1 read the story 'Handa's Surprise' and discussed the setting. They then moved on to looking at famous black people such as Barack Obama and Mo Farah.
Year 2 also discussed famous black people such as Usain Bolt and completed an activity relating to this.
In Year 6 the children explored slavery in the 18th Century and completed activities based on the Triangle Trade Route.

Assemblies have taken place in Key Stage One and Key Stage Two focusing on famous black people throughout history. During our topic of "Where do we live" Year One have been reading "Handa's Surprise" and have been thinking about the differences between our local area and the area in which the story is set.

Other year groups are studying famous black people in history such as Mo Farah, Oprah Winfrey, Barack Obama, Usain Bolt and Martin Luther King. Children chose one famous person and created a poster about their life. In Year 6 the children explored slavery in the 18th Century and completed activities based on the Triangle Trade Route.

Chinese New Year

The infants have explored some of the traditions of Chinese New Year.
Year 1 did some Chinese crafts in the afternoon - they made Chinese dragons and lanterns.

Year 2 enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year and they took part in activities such as writing their own names in Chinese, making Chinese dragons and Chinese lantern pictures.
