WRITING
At Sandilands Primary School, we believe in giving all children the chance to develop as skilled and creative writers, who can write effectively for a range of audiences and purposes.
The teaching of writing is delivered in a creative, stimulating and cross-curricular way, linked to our Big Question topics and based on high quality books and texts, as shown on our English overviews for each year group. Children are taught a range of skills based on the National Curriculum (2014) which they use to write different types of narrative texts, information texts, poems and play scripts. Spelling, grammar and vocabulary are taught in discrete sessions as well as during English lessons and children are shown how to punctuate and structure their writing correctly, becoming fluent with the relevant terminology.
