We are proud to be one of the only schools in the country to be awarded with both the Majorie Boxhall Quality Mark and the Nurture UK Award! The six principles of Nurture are interwoven into everything we do, allowing us to provide a safe and secure environment for our children to grow and develop. We know that the whole school environment and ethos has a significant impact on well-being, academic success and behaviour. We provide our children with the positive nurturing experiences in their early years that they need to develop more positive trusting relationships and self-confidence, becoming more successful in school and their future.
What is Nurture?
Nurture is about encouraging the development of a child in a safe, predictable and structured environment. We offer a similar creative curriculum as the rest of the school but it is delivered at a developmentally appropriate level, with emphasis placed on social and emotional development and communication and language development.
Children receive a broad and balanced curriculum including phonics, reading, maths, writing, art, music, gardening and
cooking. Our objectives are taken from the National Curriculum and based on the class topic. We aim to offer a
curriculum which meets the different learning styles of our pupils, engages, motivates and inspires to learn!
Children attend for a maximum period of up to 3 terms for up to 4 Mornings/afternoons a week. The child will spend every registration in their own class to maintain a sense of belonging and participate in key main events with their class where possible.
Six Principles of Nurture:
- Children's learning is understood developmentally.
- The classroom offers a safe base.
- Nurture is important for the development of self-esteem.
- Language is understood as a vital means of communication.
- All behaviour is communication.
- Transitions are significant in the lives of children.
